Founded in 1996 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, Funkopolis is a performance ensemble that tours nationally and internationally with its experimental theatrical works.

Funkopolis is an ensemble of artists who have committed themselves to creatively investigating the world around them. The company believes that artists, in ancient times and modern, have had a responsibility to present and reshape human experience through artistic expression -- so that we may all see ourselves anew. Through communication, research, and a focus on the need for public ritual, Funkopolis strives to explore and reveal the nature of life, art, society, and human interaction in the 21st century.

To that end, Funkopolis creates ensemble-based performance work, utilizing gestural performance techniques and vocal expansion, both of which have been honed and developed over the years by the company. Funkopolis presents original works created by the ensemble, theatrical presentations of non-theatrical texts, new plays, and classic literature.
